Hoarding: How It Can Harm, How You Can Help

Clutter, messy, pack rat, collector, disorganized, obsessive compulsive or even fearful – these words are often used to describe hoarders. Ironically, most hoarders don’t think they have a problem until it’s out of control, negatively affecting their way of life and their relationships with loved ones, resulting in feelings of guilt, shame and embarrassment. Left unattended, hoarding can lead to dangerous situations including fire, disease, infestation and more.
In this class, you’ll learn the telltale signs of hoarding and what to do when you see it. If you’ve ever heard yourself, friend, loved one or client say: “I’m just a pack rat,” or “I can’t throw this away; I might need it later,” “I’m addicted to my stuff” or even “It makes me feel safe,” join Elaine Perliss, C.Ht. You’ll discover what you need to know about healthy and unhealthy stuff and how to recognize when it’s getting out of control – before it’s too late. Then you’ll learn effective strategies to help the hoarder AND their concerned loved ones.
Using Hypnosis in Dealing with Change

Most people fear change. It's not really change they fear; it's the fear that they are not properly equipped to handle change. They fear they will fail, be out of control or freeze. In this presentation we will see how hypnotherapy can allow your clients to not only look forward to change but welcome it with open minds. We can desensitize early memories of being surprised with sudden change, make new associations with what change means, and rather than resist the inevitable, welcome the natural evolution of things. It takes a greater sense of self, and hypnotherapy is the perfect complement to that.
There will be audience participation in finding examples of changes people have been fearful of (loss of relationship, job change, housing change etc.). We will see how it doesn't just work out in the end, but it works out along the whole way when we can be present with ourselves. Not only will you be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, you will be the light in the tunnel. We will also look at how the body constantly changes and responds to environmental change, and how we can use hypnosis to allow the mind to also change quickly and adapt by letting go of long held beliefs.
