EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR, an acronym for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, combines eye movement or other forms of rhythmical stimulation in ways that stimulate the brain's information processing system. Featured on television's 20/20 EMDR has become a widely known therapeutic procedure. It's resemblance to hypnotic methods are striking and are the focus of debate between EMDR advocates and the hypnotherapy community.
Ms. Gilson is an EMDR Facilitator with the EMDR Institute, and has a practice in Tarzana, specializing in the treatment of trauma and related disorders. Dr. Doctor was the principal investigator for some of the earliest EMDR research. He is a professor at California State University, Northridge, and is in private practice in Woodland Hills.
