Guest Speaker Cheryl O’Neil, HMI Senior Faculty and CCHt, returns to share how client relationships, meaningful therapeutic work, and personal belief have shaped her referral-based practice.

In this episode, Cheryl draws on her experience working one-on-one with Dr. Kappas early in her hypnotherapy career. She recalls his advice that one person could make a difference in an entire practice and explains how she applied his wisdom while building her practice. She points to rapport and spoken imagery as parts of the work that may create memorable experiences clients later talk about or recognize changes in their decisions or behavior. Cheryl also emphasizes genuine care beyond the session, including brief check-ins she calls “text therapy,” as a way of letting clients know someone remains in their corner.

Cheryl reframes the conversation around practice growth by moving from conscious desire to the subconscious belief that clients will come. She gives personal examples of changing her internal beliefs, including daily Mental Bank affirmations and self-hypnosis imagery of a blank calendar page filling with appointments, showing listeners how they can apply similar approaches to their own practices. Ultimately, Cheryl encourages hypnotherapists to do meaningful work with clients while holding an inner expectation that more clients are on the way.
