Practice Builders Episode 95 - Denise Delahoussaye, CCHt
Presented By: Denise Mailey Delahoussaye, MA, CCHt
Guest Speaker Denise Delahoussaye, HMI Student Service Counselor and CCHt, returns to share how showing up physically and mentally ready to hold space for someone else strengthens confidence and professionalism with clients.
In this episode, Denise offers routines that help her arrive fully ready for a client, from knowing her schedule and reviewing notes in advance to taking one quiet minute before each session to center herself and set everything else aside. She views readiness as a decision and a professional standard that protects one’s sense of peace and supports steadiness when plans change or something unexpected happens. Denise also stresses completing notes immediately after a session so the next meeting begins with continuity and the client does not have to remind the practitioner what they worked on.
Denise also reminds listeners that clients begin forming impressions before the session really starts. Clothing, grooming, camera placement, sound, and overall presentation communicate whether the practitioner respects the space and takes the work seriously. Those details can reassure a client that they are safe, respected, and in capable hands. She encourages listeners to keep readiness simple and intentional, emphasizing that preparation can build confidence and professionalism.
For this week’s challenge, Denise encourages listeners to spend five minutes each morning in gratitude, prayer, reflection, or another centering practice before beginning the day. Take this week’s challenge to keep learning, growing, and strengthening your work with clients.
