A Primer on Transpersonal Psychology

Presented By: Charles T. Tart

This video is a brief primer on the history of Transpersonal Psychology – specifically, as a field that includes both research and counseling. It features an interview with one of Transpersonal Psychology’s founders Charles T. Tart, PhD.

Charles T. Tart is emeritus professor of psychology at the University of California, Davis, as well as the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. He is a past-president of the Parapsychological Association. He has published over 100 scientific papers in parapsychology and numerous books foundational to the field of Transpersonal Psychology.

This video explores the emergence of Transpersonal Psychology from Humanistic psychology and reveals that TP’s focus is on spiritual experiences in the context of both scientific research and counseling.

It's interesting how TP is materially compared and contrasted with what is considered "real". It seems as though there is an unconscious materialistic lens that spirituality is viewed as a transpersonal counselor. Not always though.
