American Hypnosis Association – Practice Builders Power Hour

Practice Builders Episode 104 - Saman Nasir, CCHt

Presented By: Saman Nasir, CCHt

Saman Nasir, CCHt

Guest Speaker Saman – Sammy Nasir, CCHt, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, returns to explore these “open loops” and how recognizing unfinished business helps practitioners understand what keeps clients feeling stuck. Unanswered messages, unfinished tasks, and unresolved experiences all leave something asking for our attention.

Sammy introduces the Zeigarnik Effect and explores how unfinished business shows up through procrastination, sleep difficulties, and repetitive thoughts. She offers a revealing intake question - What is something that you wish would happen that hasn’t happened yet? The answer helps distinguish a task needing action from an emotional experience needing a different kind of resolution.

For practical loops, Sammy recommends completing the task or identifying a concrete next step. When an apology or conversation is no longer possible, she describes using imagery, parts work, and inner-child work to help clients develop new perspectives and make peace with unanswered questions. She emphasizes stabilizing first, staying within training, and seeking supervision or referring out when needed.

Open loops also create curiosity and motivation. Sammy turns a five-minute walk into an experiment by asking clients to predict how they will feel afterward, then compare their prediction with their experience. She applies the same practical focus to building a practice which is list unfinished projects and give each one a next step.

For this week’s challenge, Sammy invites you to identify and close just one open loop over the next seven days like an email, an appointment, or another manageable task you have been postponing.

Take this week’s challenge to keep learning, growing, and strengthening your work with clients.
